Apple unveils new OS, refreshed MacBook Airs

Washington (IANS): Apple Inc. has unveiled an operating system for its iPhones and iPads that will radically overhaul how users' touchscreens look, a top company official said. Besides the new system, iOS 7, also unveiled was a refreshed MacBook Airs. The company announced an iTunes Radio streaming-music service and a sneak peek at a new Mac Pro that would be the most powerful computer Apple has ever made. Unveiling Apple's first major product event in nine months in California on Monday, chief executive Tim Cook called it the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone. Developers got the first look at a major reworking of mobile operating system, due in September. Key changes * New icons: The OS from Apple has completely redesigned flat icons. The iOS 7has a new slide-up control panel, new fonts, new icons and new translucent bars. * New Siri: Apple has also revamped the Siri feature with a new male voice. Siri now offers the facility to search Twitter and Wikipedia. * Changes in Safari: Safari web browser has a new tab interface with a complete redesign. There is also a provision of one-tap access to Safari favourites of user. * New features for apps: The OS also has a gesture back button for apps. Apple has introduced the multitasking feature for all apps. * New camera app: The new camera app has automatic 'square' camera for Instagramshots, said Apple. The new photos app also arranges images according to the location and time, a feature called 'moments'. * Automatic app updation: Another addition to the OS is that the user no longer needs to manually update apps. This would happen automatically in the background. * Other features: iOS 7 boasts of a new card multitasking feature. It has a 3D interface. "When you tilt the phone, the perspective changes," claims Apple.
