Kadapa: The 106th birth anniversary of former deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram was celebrated at the YSR Auditorium here on Friday. Chairman of the 20-point programme N Tulasi Reddy and Collector Kona Sashidhar paid tributes to Jagjivan Ram by garlanding his portrait.

Enumerating Babu Jagjivan Ram's contribution in his capacity as Union Minister for various portfolios, Tulasi Reddy said as a Defence Minister under the dynamic leadership of Indira Gandhi, he oversaw the liberation of Bangladesh.

Anantapur: Minister for Primary Education S Sailajanath paid homage to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 106th birth anniversary by garlanded his statue at Anantapur Zilla Parishad Office here on Friday. Later, he distributed assets worth Rs 3.20 crore to 415 unemployed youth, SHG women through SC and ST Sub-plan. He distributed autos to nine persons and submersible pumps to 10 persons. Later, addressing the media, Sailajanath lauded the services of the departed leader.

He said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy launched Indiramma programme to realise the dreams of late leader Indira Gandhi and requested all the people to make it a success by participating in the programme which is scheduled from April 9 to 30.

Nellore: Congress senior leader VH Hanumantha Rao praised the services rendered by late leader Babu Jagjivan Ram for the upliftment of the poor and weaker sections. He paid floral tributes to the leader at Nellore on Friday. He said they are initiating 'Indiramma Kalalu Netiki Nijam' programme to allot special funds for SCs and STs for their development.

Speaking at a programme, which was held to mark the 106th birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram here at Sri Venkateswara Kasturba Kalakshetram on Friday, District Collector B Sreedhar sang paeans on the late leader. He garlanded the portrait of the leader. Later, the Collector distributed Rs 2 crore to Self-Help Group members under MEPMA, Rs 2 crore to 75 SHGs through DRDA, cheques worth Rs 65 lakh to 36 beneficiaries and fish nets to 36 beneficiaries.
