Kadapa: Despite direction from the State government, Minister for Minority Welfare Ahmadullah did not attend the 67th Independence Day celebrations that were held on a grand scale in Kadapa on Thursday. Therefore, District Collector Kona Sashidhar had to hoist the national flag. The cultural programmes of the students attracted the audience. Later, the District Collector awarded the efficient employees with merit certificates. Meanwhile, Telugu Desam, Congress and YSR Congress Party leaders also hoisted the national flag at their party offices in the city.

After the celebrations, employees of revenue and mandal parishat staged a protest tying a black cloth to their mouths. Students of Chaitanya Convent donned the attires of Mahatma Gandhi, Jhansi Lakshmi Bai and Potti Sriramulu and held a rally supporting united Andhra Pradesh in Sundupalle.


Former Minister DL Ravindra Reddy hoisted the national flag at MRO and MPDO offices in Khazipet and garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Potti Sriramulu. Later, speaking with the media, DL said that it is not proper to blame Congress party alone for taking the decision on separate Telangana. Congress party took the decision after discussing with all parties only, he added.
