sto2 Karimnagar: Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu has said that the State and Central Governments have been striving to provide better medical facilities at Government hospitals for the convenience of poor people. The Minister laid foundation for Maternity and Children's Health Centre of Excellence (MCHCE) at Government District Headquarters Hospital in the town on Sunday. The centre, with 150 beds, is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 cr. The District Hospital, with 350 beds, is spread over a sprawling 14 acres land to provide better services to the poor patients. Both State and Central governments have been striving to provide modern medical equipment at the hospital. The Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar has donated Rs 30 lakhs for setting up of platelet equipment (for counting of cells in blood) at the hospital, the Minister said. The State Government would take steps for the appointment of doctors and other employees at the hospitals.A The probationary doctors (medical students after passing MBBS) would be asked to work in rural areas for one year. A decision was taken at the recent Cabinet meeting in this regard and this system would be implemented from 2014, the Minister said. Mr. Sridhar Babu said that a proposal for establishing a medical college in Karimnagar would be sent to the Government for its approval. B.Sc Nursing College at Jagityal and a Nursing School in Karimnagar were sanctioned and both would be launched from June, he said. Government Whip Arepalli Mohan asked the doctors to attend the duties punctually and provide better services to the patients with dedication. MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that the MCHCE complex with a spacious area of 1,90,000 sq ft, would be completed in one year. District Collector Smita Sabharwal and MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao spoke on the occasion. A Joint Collector H Arunkumar, District Child Health Services (DCHS) Official Dr Bhoja, District Medical and Health Officer (DM & HO) Dr K Nageswara Rao, RDO Sandhya Rani and others were present at the programme.
