Khammam: Every household will be supplied with pure drinking water by Ugadi through Mission Bhageeratha project, told the Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao here in Khammam on Tuesday.

The Minister laid foundation stone for the construction of water purifying centre at a cost of Rs 575 crore on the top of the Mukari Hills at Thanikelli village of Konijerla mandal of Khammam district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said it was a good sign to lay foundation stone on the same date of which the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao went for indefinite hunger strike for achieving separate statehood for Telangana.

“For the sake of Telangana women who are facing lot of problems in fetching water from long distances, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao with firm determination had started the prestigious Mission Bhagiratha project to supply drinking water to every household in the State,” Tummala said.

He also added that every person across the country were appreciating KCR for starting such a big project of supplying drinking water, which was not seen earlier anywhere in the country.

“For Khammam district alone, Rs 6,500 crore was invested under Mission Bhageeratha project. As many as 1,500 over head tanks would be constructed in the district under this project. Rs 50,000 crore were invested for the project in the State and extra Rs10, 000 may be required for completion of works,” said the Minister.”

He ordered the officials to take necessary steps for successful completion of works without any irregularities. “At present, through Bhaktha Ramadasu and Sitaram Projects, the Godavari water was brought into usage. The water from Krishna River will also be brought under usage in coming days,” assured the Minister.

ZP Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, Wyra MLA Madan Lal, ZP Chief Executive Officer Marupaka Nagesh and TRS district president Budan Baig were present along with others.
