Khammam: One of the major cause of road accidents is drunk driving, which is the most dangerous violation, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sada Niranjan here on Tuesday.

The ACP attended as chief guest to an awareness programme conducted on ‘Prevention of Drunk and Drive and Suicides’ by the Lakshya Engineering College in Khammam on Tuesday.

The college students took out a rally from Pavilion Grounds to Zilla Parishad Centre raising slogans against drink driving and suicides holding the placards in their hands.

Addressing the students, the ACP said the risk of being involved in a road accident is higher in case of drivers who consume alcohol even in small amounts. “Consumption of alcohol results in euphoric effect, thus making an individual shed his inhibitions and violate traffic safety rules,” he added.

Traffic Circle Inspector Nageshwar Rao explained students about traffic rules. He congratulated and appreciated the efforts of the college management for conducting such awareness programmes which would help students understand the traffic rules and focus on their career.

College Chairman Gurram Tirumala Rao, Secretary Koppuravuri Srinivas, B Krishna Mohan, Principal Dr K Raghu Ram, Dr VV Shiva Prasad and P Mallikarjun were present along with college staff.
