Khammam: All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) district president Macharla Bharati demanded that the government take stern action against the person who allegedly stabbed an Intermediate girl here on Friday.

The accused Rama Lingaiah, a resident of Ravinuthala village of Bonakal mandal, stabbed Yamuna, an Intermediate girl of the same village on Thursday for not accepting his love. Yamuna, who was seriously injured, is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Khammam. Representatives of the AIDWA visited the private hospital where Yamuna is undergoing treatment and consoled her.

Speaking on the occasion, Bharati alleged that the policies adopted by both the State and Central governments were against women and they were demoralising. “The governments are encouraging gender discrimination in the country and in the States and are supporting males due to which such type of incidents are increasing day by ay across the nation and in the State,” she alleged.

When women were coming forward and performing well in all fields competing with their male counterparts, such incidents would make women lose self-confidence, she pointed out. The government and the police officials must take severe action against Rama Lingaiah and must impose serious punishment on him, she demanded.

AIDWA leaders P Sulochana, K Saraswathi, K Amaravathi, P Ramya, M Naga Mani and N Uma Devi were among those who visited hospital to console Yamuna.
