Khammam: A jilted youth stabbed a minor girl in full public glare here at old cinema theatre in Bonakal mandal of Khammam on Thursday.

According to sources, the accused Rama Lingaiah was in love with victim, Yamuna, (17), for the last two years. The two belong to same caste and live on the same street in Bonakal mandal.

However, six months ago they ran away and reportedly got married in a temple. But after a week, they came back hoping that their parents would accept their marriage. However, the parents refused. Further, the girl’s parents convinced her and sent her to stay at their relative’s house and filed a kidnap case against Rama Lingaiah.

Soon, Rama Lingaiah was arrested and was sent to remand. After released on bail, Rama Lingaiah asked Yamuna to come with him. When Yamuna refused, Lingaiah stabbed her in the neck and the stomach.

The locals who were witness to the crime tried to nab Lingaiah, but in vain. Meanwhile, Yamuna, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to Khammam government hospital for treatment. The police registered a case against Lingaiah and launched a man hunt to nab the accused.
