Mahbubnagar: Coming down heavily on the Congress for becoming a stumbling block in the way of irrigation projects in Mahbubnagar district, Health Minister C Laxma Reddy alleged that it was the wrong polices of the Congress that led to the backwardness of Palamuru.
“The Congress, during its 60 years of rule, had done nothing to Palamuru and its people. The Congress leaders never thought of bringing big projects to the district and they are the main reason for making the people of the district migrate as labourers to other cities for livelihood.
It is because of the Congress and its wrong policies, the Telangana people had to lose their share of water to Andhra Pradesh. Even today, they don’t want the people of Palamuru to get irrigation water and are putting false cases in courts to halt the projects. We all know, the Congress is synonym to scams, large scale corruption and loot. They never thought of the welfare of people but adopted wrong policies which led to rampant corruption at all levels,” said Reddy.
The Health Minister alleged that the Congress was the main reason for the backwardness of Mahbubnagar and its people, and during the 60 years of its rule, not a single project was completed fully to benefit the people of the district. Even though some projects like Kalwakurty, Nettampad, Bheema and Jurala were launched, these projects were left incomplete for more than 30 years.
“During the Congress regime, the then government had released 90 per cent of funds to contractors in the name of mobilisation funds and not even 50 per cent works was done. Even though some mud works were taken up, those works had lacked quality. The Congress paid huge funds to contractors and it resorted to dig canals without even having reservoirs to store the water.
In KLI project, only canals were dug but no reservoir in the design. However, after the TRS government came to power, we have redesigned all these projects as part of Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation scheme and have initiated the projects on a mammoth scale. Irrigation Minister Harish Rao is working day in and day out and inspecting all projects. He is after the engineers by sleeping at the projects so that all the existing and newly taken up projects are constructed in the stipulated period,” said Laxma Reddy.
The Health Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was giving special focus on Mahbubnagar and wanted to change the entire face of the district. Chief Minister wanted to change its negative brand as draught and migration hit district to agriculturally prosperous and green belt, he said.
“The TRS government is not just committed to complete all the existing projects like KLI, Nettampad, RDS, Bheema and Koilsagar, but is also working to complete the gigantic Palamuru Ranga Reddy and other newly taken up projects in time and ensure every acre in Palamuru is irrigated.
Thanks to our Chief Minister, who is having in-depth knowledge about the geographic, socio-economic, cultural and political aspects of the people of Telangana, he was able to design wonderful projects, schemes and never before initiatives for the welfare of the people of Telangana,” said Reddy.
The Minister termed the Congress as publicity mongers and alleged that it was misleading the people by false propaganda against the government. However, he said, the people were observing everything and would teach a befitting lesson to the Congress in the next elections.
