headKhammam: Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar arrived here on Monday as part of his two-day visit to the district. He visited several places in the district and reviewed the implementation of various welfare schemes. Representatives of employees, workers, women organizations and representatives of political parties met the Speaker at the Khammam R & B Guest House and submitted petitions on their problems. Home Guards pleaded with the Speaker to help increase their salaries. TDP leader and former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao submitted a memorandum to the Speaker for completion of Indira Sagar and Rajeev Sagar irrigation projects in the district and for the release of water to tail end areas of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project Left Canal. Wyra MLA Banoth Chandravarthi asked the Speaker to ensure the fund release for completion of pending irrigation projects in the district. Later the Speaker reviewed the implementation of reservations in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the funds spent by the Company for the welfare of SCs and STs at the Singareni Guest House in the Kothagudem. SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Sutirtha Bhattacharya welcomed the Speaker. Rajanna Dora, Chairman of Legislature Committee for SC and ST Welfare asked the company officials to implement reservation policy. Speaking at the programme Mr. Manohar said that a plan was prepared for spending 25 per cent of the company profits for the development of the region. Stressing the importance of coal production he suggested to the officials to take steps for protecting the environment and rights of tribals. He asked the officials to hike the compensation paid to the persons died while performing the duty. The Speaker also visited the opencast coalmine in Manuguru and interacted with the workers. He promised all the government help to the people displaced due to the opencast mines. Union Minister of State for Social Justice Balaram Naik, Horticulture Minister Ramreddy Venkat Reddy, Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, SCCL officials, members of Legislature Committee for the welfare of SCs and STs, MLAs and MLCs from the district, District Collector Siddharth Jain, SP AV Ranganath and others attended the review meet.
