Vijayawada: Religious fervour marked the celebration of Srirama Navami in the city on Friday. A Thousands of devotees watched the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita amidst priests chanting vedic mantras.A People visited the make-shift pandals at several places in the city where the celestial wedding was celebrated.

The nine-day-long Navami festival started with the wedding as people of all ages, dressed in new clothes, worshiped the deity and watched the wedding in devotion. Besides temples, which were spruced up for the event, the residential and business communities across the city have put up pandals and celebrated the wedding displaying devotion and rich tradition.

Besides the wedding, community feeding was also part of the event to share brotherhood and continuing the glorious tradition of nation. The old and the young clad in colourful dresses were seen exchanging pleasantries at every pandal as the celestial wedding proceedings were in progress.

The temple officials at Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri also celebrated the Srirama Navami and made arrangements for the next nine day programmes. A The MLC MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah and his wife participated in the Sitarama Kalyanam at Rama Mandir on Eluru Road.

The devotees presented a 65kg laddu to the Besant Road Ramalayam after the marriage.The local MLA Malladi Vishnu and his wife participated in the Sri Rama Kalyanam at Besant Road, Padavala Revu and other centers and offered special prayers.The Vijayawada East MLA, Yalamanchili Ravi, participated in the celebrations at the Sri Sitarama Swamy temple in Patamata, Patamata Lanka and other places.
