River Musi revival is all set to get an international touch. The state government is seeking ideas for the River Musi Revitalisation and at least seven international firms have registered themselves for the design competition.

So far, 10 national and international firms registered themselves for the competition (Turnscape (China), EcoSystem Design (US), Wow Design Studio (Singapore) apart from Hafeez Contractor and Anagram Architects from India), which is part of the efforts to restore and conserve the river and revitalize its environs. The last date for registrations is May 9 and the last date for submission of designs is June 11.

The State government aims to make Musi within Hyderabad to have a lasting legacy while establishing a path for sustainable and inclusive future.

Hence, it has proposed the Musi Corridor with east-west connectivity in the form of a skyway, river conservation and beautification from the outfall of Himayath Sagar and Osman Sagar on the West and till Outer Ring Road at Gowrelli on the East with a total length of 57.50 km.

A public exhibition of designs would also be organized between July and August while a jury with eminent architects, academics, and experts in the field would evaluate, select and place the best designs for the government approval.

Apart from the 57 km of river corridor in the city, the 3 km river stretch project from Puranapul to Chaderghat with a selected design is planned for a December launch. The development of the entire stretch of 57.50 km is proposed for completion with a project period of two-and-a-half-years commencing January 2019.

Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have already been issued orders to make arrangements for diversion of sewage flow and prevention of hazardous waste dumping into the Musi river.
