Bangalore:The city traffic police have formed a squad dedicated to anti-drag racing and wheeling. This is an attempt to nab speed junkies out on the streets drag racing and performing freewheeling stunts that put other motorists in danger. The squads will be formed soon and will be deployed near Outer Ring Road, Ballari Road and some areas in the CBD.

The initiative was dubbed by Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Harishekaran. This is in line with the department’s efforts to increase road safety and reduce fatal accidents in the city limits. The city traffic police personnel held a session on Saturday to explain their plan of action. They have also decided to start using body cameras during drunk drive checks so video evidence is gathered to make sure their personnel and motorists are honest. The city traffic police had last year distributed around 50 body cameras to its personnel especially in the Central Business District (CBD) along with special coaching sessions on using them.
