Marvel Comics has brought back its famous super Ms. Marvel as a 16-year-old daughter of Pakistani immigrants living in Jersey City named Kamala Khan.
The comic book character - among the first superheroes who is both a woman and a Muslim - is part of Marvel Entertainment's efforts to show a growing diversity among its readers.
Writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona, working with editor Sana Amanat, said that the new comic book series reflects Khan's vibrant but kinetic world, learning to deal with her superpowers, family expectations and adolescence, CBS News reported.
Amanat called the new series a desire to explore the Muslim-American diaspora from an authentic perspective.
She said that she wanted Ms. Marvel to be true-to-life, something that real people could relate to, particularly young women.
Willow said that Khan can grow and shrink her limbs and her body and, ultimately, she'll be able to shape shift into other forms as well.
