South superstar Rajinikanth is all set to enthrall the audience with his upcoming movie 'Petta'. Touted to be an action entertainer, Karthik Subbaraj helmed this project. The teaser and trailer of the movie have hinted that the movie is definitely going to be an eye feast for the for Rajini fans. It has been a long time since Rajni scored a proper hit in Tollywood. All the audience are currently eyeing on 'Petta' movie which also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran, Bobby Simha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui etc. Kalanidhi Maran under Sun pictures produced this movie which finally hit the screens today on January 10th, 2019. Let's check out the review of the film.
Story:
The film's story revolves around a hostel and the warden Kaali (Rajinikanth). Kaali becomes friends with the students of the hostel in less time by solving their issues. Meanwhile, Simhachalam (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is in search for Kaali. Then, it is revealed that Kaali's real identity is Peta. Who is Peta? What is his conflict with Simhachalam? Why did he change the identity? Forms the story of the movie.
Performances:
The energetic performance delivered by superstar Rajinikanth is outstanding. One can easily believe that he is a 40-year-old actor, but this 68-year-old actor never fails to cast his magic on the audience with his style and dialogue delivery. His performance is an eye feast for the audience. Vijay Sethupathi is undoubtedly one of the talented actors. Just like his previous movies, he showed a variation in his character in this film as well. He is also one of the pillars of this film. Simran looked absolutely beautiful and younger. Trisha also looked beautiful. She delivered a decent performance. M Sasikumar and Nawazuddin Siddiqui justified their roles really well. Bobby Simha gave his best. The rest of the cost also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects:
The production values by Sun Pictures are very rich. Music by Anirudh Ravichander is definitely a plus point for the film. Especially his background music for some scenes elevated the scenes really. The camera angles of Tirru are really good. The locations in the first half are pleasant and beautiful. Editing by Vivek Harshan is average. M Rajshekar Reddy has penned the dialogues really well.
Verdict:
Director Karthik Subbaraj succeeded in adding commercial elements to the regular story and making it in an interesting way. Though there is nothing special about the story, the director handled it really well. It is evident that the makers have made the movie just for Rajinikanth fans. The routine revenge story might become a setback for the film. However, director Karthik has succeeded in bringing back the old Rajnikanth style and magic on screen again. The first half go slow with the characters introduction and Rajini's style and mass dialogues. The flashback is just average. However, the second half is somewhat boring but Rajnikanth comes to the rescue. The music by Anirudh Ravichander helped a lot for the film. Overall, 'Petta' is a must watch the movie for Rajinikanth fans.
