Cyclone Phailin: Odisha, AP gear up

Cylone Phailin has created a panic among residents of Odisha. A cyclone which had hit the region in 1999 had killed nearly 10,000 people. Now, Cyclone Phailin which is dubbed to be half the size of India has gathered enough strength and likely to strike Odisha and Andhra Pradesh anytime soon on Saturday.

The disaster management team has been pressed into service. Thousands have been evacuated to safer places from the coastal areas in the state.

The storm is slowly gathering strength and believed to hit the states at a windspeed of 300kmph.
The Meteorological department has predicted that cyclone Phailin will be very severe. The cyclone is expected to first strike Gopalpuram in Odisha and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Over a lakh people are likely to be severely affected. The disaster response team has already kept makeshift shelters ready.
