Stampede in Madhya Pradesh temple kills 10

In a huge stampede at Kamtanath Pahad Temple on the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border, ten pilgrims were killed and over 60 have suffered injuries.

A huge number of women devotees had gathered at the religious place on the occasion of 'Amavasya' to encircle the mountain by lying and rolling on the path for worship. The presence of a large crowd resulted in a stampede in the area leaving 10 dead.

"Ten people were killed and over 60 are suspected to be injured in the stampede," collector M L Meena said.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the kin of those killed; Rs. 50,000 to seriously injured and Rs. 10,000 to those who suffered minor injuries.
