According to sources, soon there will be a ban on the use of e-mail Ids being offered by renowned e-mail service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, Rediff et al, as there is a threat to the data privacy in the correspondence made through these servers.

According to sources, soon there will be a ban on the use of e-mail Ids being offered by renowned e-mail service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, Rediff et al, as there is a threat to the data privacy in the correspondence made through these servers. The government of India is keen to undertake a replacement of the existing system by incorporating a secured e-mail system through NIC (National Informatics System). The Government of India has sent a proposal to DEITY (Department of Electronics and Information Technology) for the same.

If what is proposed by the government is implemented, like the defences services which already have their private and secured servers, every other government department would have their own server to operate an e-mail system in a safe and secured environment. An expenditure of Rs 100cr would be incurred for the project implementation, added sources.
