New Delhi: The Congress party has decided to ignore the prime minister Narendra Modi and his party the BJP as its gets down to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of independent India.

"We have not given any invitation to the Prime Minister. We have invited all those who truly believe in democracy and the ideals of Nehru," said Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma as he gave the details of the programmes chalked out by the party for the year.

Modi built his election campaign on anti-Nehru plank and had restructured a government committee for the 125th birth anniversary celebrations by dropping the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other family members. But the Congress insists that neither Nehru’s legacy nor his views can be subverted through this process.

The New Delhi conference being organised by Congress on November 17-18 will have two subject sessions – Inclusive Democracy and People's Empowerment, and Nehru's Worldview and a Democratic Global Order for the 21st Century.
