A power disruption on Sunday forced the Mumbai monorail to grind to a halt, leading to the evacuation of 11 passengers and a pilot from the train and raising questions over the train's efficiency.

Reports say the power disruption occurred early this morning at around 8 am and it is still unclear when the services will resume.
Meanwhile, terming the incident as an 'eye opener', BJP leader Kirit Somaiya asked what would have happened if the train was full with 200 passengers.
"Today this failure of the monorail in Mumbai is an eye opener for the entire country. I would like to thank the fire department first of all for they rescued the stranded passengers . The monorail company officials say it was a power failure but I don't understand this. There has been no power failure anywhere else. Is it a failure of the company's internal system? There is always an alternate power supply system, what happened to that?" asked Somaiya.
