Three ministers, Smriti Irani, Harsimrat Kaur and Jitendra Singh, and two party spokespersons assailed Gandhi on a day he visited Amethi and unleashed an attack on the Prime Minister, saying he should visit the homes of distressed farmers many of whom have committed suicide.

New Delhi: In a two-pronged attack, the government and the BJP on Monday combined to target Rahul Gandhi on his criticism of Prime Minister's foreign visits and a cancelled project in Amethi, saying he was "frustrated" by Modi's successes and was spreading "negativity and lies".
Three ministers, Smriti Irani, Harsimrat Kaur and Jitendra Singh, and two party spokespersons assailed Gandhi on a day he visited Amethi and unleashed an attack on the Prime Minister, saying he should visit the homes of distressed farmers many of whom have committed suicide.
They said he had forgotten his constituency for the last 10 years and was even ignorant about the cancellation of the food park project, which happened in 2014 for which he is blaming the Centre.
As Gandhi raked up the cancellation of the food park project in Amethi, Kaur, who is Food Processing Industry Minister, accused him of spreading "falsehood" and playing a "mega fraud" on the people.
She alleged that promoters of the project were pursuing a power plant in the name of food park.
Having taken on Gandhi on the issue in Parliament last week, she said the decision to deny any further extension to project was taken in March last year when UPA was in power and asked Gandhi to do his "homework".
She also questioned where the Congress leader was all the while since the project was cancelled.
Kaur took a jibe at Gandhi over his attack on Modi for his foreign visits, saying while the PM undertakes visits for the country's development, "no one knows where Rahul was for two months."
Irani, who lost to Gandhi in Amethi and visited the constituency in last week, said Amethi had got nothing under the UPA rule and he was targeting Modi government because questions are now being asked about what he had done in his constituency.
Terming his comments against Modi as "frivolous" and "childish", Jitendra Singh said, "It is very frivolous and very childish. And all of us, every Indian, should be proud of Prime Minister's visit abroad.
"The Prime Minister has gone abroad in order to discharge very important national duty and the manner in which he has been received there, the kind of enthusiastic response he has received, should make each one of us proud."
BJP said Gandhi's "frustration and confusion" was caused by Modi's economic and foreign policy "successes" as Congress used to target him on these issues after he emerged as the principal challenger to the UPA regime.
