Four sanitation workers, who were put on special duty to maintain cleanliness at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 25 rally venue, have been suspended for being absent, while two others have been issued show cause notices for negligence of duty.

Sanitation workers — Rajaram Singh, Dharajit, Kaptan, Narendra Kumar — were put on special duty to keep Nangla Chandrabhan village clean ahead of Mr Modi’s rally, but they remained absent, a district panchayati raj official said. Two others have been issued show cause notices for negligence of duty, the official said, adding that strict action would be initiated against them, if they fail to give satisfactory explanation. Mr Modi kick-started the first of 200 rallies to mark the NDA government’s first anniversary at this village.
