The 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being celebrated across the country on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel statue on Parliament Street and later, he addressed the people assembled at Rajpath for the "Run For Unity" and administered the pledge of unity to the assembled gathering.


After delivering the speech, Modi flagged off the 'Run For Unity' at Rajpath. The day is being celebrated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' (National Unity Day).

Under this scheme, if Haryana pairs with Tamil Nadu, then school students will also be taught about Tamil culture & language a period.
"Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat" once implemented will be states recognising and learning about another state's culture and language.
"Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat" is a yojana we are planning to start very soon.
Only Unity will become our biggest strength.
Sardar Patel inspires the thought that there is no family name or members linked to his legacy.
This effort went on under strict eye of Sardar Patel and it was Gandhi ji (Mahatma Gandhi) who noted and appreciated the effort.
Sardar Patel started a Swachta Abhiyaan that went on for 222 days.
Sardar Patel was the skilled administrator.
We have to build a "Shreshth Bharat". We have to walk together and it's our responsibility to ensure we are united and we stay united.
After Chanakya, it was Sardar Patel who strung India together with unity.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's ideology and heritage cannot be forgotten. He contributed immensely to India's unity.
When British left India, they left India divided. It was Sardar Patel who kept the country united.
Soon after freedom... worked with princely states during his tenure. That’s why he's remembered from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Few others in this country who had more than one title, he (Sardar Patel) was known as both 'sardar' and 'loh purush'.
We cannot forget Sardar Patel's contribution to the unity of the country.
As we are commemorating Vallabhbhai Patel, we also remember Indira Gandhi this day.
Modi pays tribute to Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary at Patel Chowk, Delhi.


The participation is voluntary and a large number of people including school-children and sports persons are expected to join the 'Run for Unity', the statement added.

On the eve of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the pledge of National Unity was administered at many offices of the Government of India in New Delhi on Friday.

Celebrations are also being organised in states, which Union Ministers would be attending at different places.
