Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla inaugurated a 20kW FM transmitter in Fazilka, Punjab, on Friday on the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee\'s 91st birthday.

Fazilka (Punjab): Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla inaugurated a 20kW FM transmitter in Fazilka, Punjab, on Friday on the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's 91st birthday.

The FM transmitter is equipped with a 16-panel FM antenna that is mounted on 300m high DD tower. It has 125 KVA DG Set, UPS, C-Band Satellite Receive Terminal & DTH facility. The services through this transmitter will be available on 100.8MHz.

This transmitter will relay the AIR Urdu Service and will be the first AIR FM transmitter that will exclusively carry AIR Urdu Service for the people of both sides of the border area.

Transmission in this area will be controlled by AIR Bhatinda. The transmitter is likely to cater broadcast upto 80-kilometer radius.

This transmitter will also penetrate upto 68 kilometers inside Pakistan along the Indo-Pak border area in the vicinity of Fazilka.

The overall coverage area of this transmitter is about 20300 square kilometers and will cater to a 32 lakh strong population on the Indian side and a 36-lakh strong population across the border.
