New Delhi: The Union government is reviewing a section of the Sedition Law, under which JNU student leaders Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya are currently in jail. The Ministry of Law and Justice has asked the Law Commission to study the usage of Section 124A (Sedition) of the IPC.

The Home Ministry informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the Law Commission has intimated that they have identified certain focus areas and formed a subgroup to deliberate on the issues.

The Delhi High Court had on Monday slammed the Delhi police during the hearing on Kanhaiya Kumar's bail application. During the hearing, the Delhi police accepted that there was no video evidence to suggest that Kanhaiya raised anti-India slogans during an event on JNU campus on February 9. The court will be hearing the case on March 2.
