Guwahati: Eyes to win over Assam, BJP has decided to field its MP against the Assam Chief Minister in the upcoming assembly poll, which will be held on April 4 and April 11 in two phases.

On Wednesday, BJP had announced the candidates list for 88 constituencies including the names of the BJP’s Assam unit president and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The saffron party had fielded its MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa against the Assam CM Tarun Gogoi in Titabor constituency under upper Assam’s Jorhat district.

Tasa’s name had included in the list in Titabor, Gogoi’s home constituency.

BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from Majuli constituency under Jorhat district.

On the other hand, rebel Congress leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who joined the saffron party last year will contest from Jalukbari.

The others name in the list are former Congress MLA’s Pijyus Hazarika (Jagiroad), Kripanath Mallah (Ratabari), Pallab Lochan Das (Rongapara), Bolin Chetia (Sadia), Pradan Baruah (Dhemaji), Binanda Saikia (Sipajhar), former AGP MLA’s Padma Hazarika (Satia), Naba Doley (Dhakuakhana), BJP’s present MLA’s Prasanta Phukan (Dibrugarh), Dilip Moran (Doomdooma), Ranjit Das (Sarbhog).

BJP had earlier made poll-alliance with Hagrama Mahilary led BPF and AGP to defeat Congress, who ruled in the state in past 15 years.
