Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation of Jammu region and said Border Security Force (BSF) authorities should beef up border management system and remain extra vigilant along the International Border.

The BSF authorities should beef up border management system and remain extra vigilant along the IB in Jammu region, he said at the meeting with officers of civil administration, Police, the Army, the BSF and paramilitary forces here.

Singh told them to make sure that there is no lapse in security arrangements during the Amarnath Yatra.

IGP (Jammu) Danish Rana, DIG (Jammu-Kathua range) Ashkoor Ahmad Wani, DCs and SSPs of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur were present in the meeting. DCs and SSPs of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda also attended the meeting through video conferencing.

Rana informed the meeting that the Amarnath Yatra has resumed today from Jammu and all necessary arrangements have been put in place for safety of the pilgrims.

The Yatra was suspended on July 9 due to violent protests in Kashmir.

The Deputy CM directed the officers make "synergised efforts" to maintain peace and harmony in the region and told the DCs to convene meetings with civil society members seeking their support in this regard.

He instructed police to establish additional nakas and enhance patrolling on the National Highway and exhorted upon all agencies to work in a coordinated manner and put maximum efforts in dealing with any serious situation.

Singh also appealed people to remain "vigilant against the nefarious designs of anti-social elements" who are "hell-bent" upon creating a wedge in the society "to meet their vested interests".
