Hathras:A 70-year-old man standing in the queue for getting his now-invalid notes exchanged died after he was taken seriously ill here.

Siyaram, resident of Balapatti, who had been standing in the queue for the past three days, failing to get his old notes exchanged was taken seriously ill yesterday and was rushed to hospital where he died, Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Srivastava said on Friday.

The victim had been standing in the queue before the Canara Bank branch near Burz wala Kuan, the SP said, adding that police has been deployed in view of huge crowds collecting in front of banks.

Meanwhile, the locals have sent a fax message to the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi demanding a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs for the family of the deceased.
