Jammu: Pakistan on Monday violated the ceasefire by firing from automatic weapons on forward posts and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian Army retaliated and the firing is continuing, a Defence spokesman said.

The spokesman said Pakistan Army started indiscriminate firing from small arms and lobbed mortar shells from 9.30 am on Indian Army posts along the LoC in Poonch sector.

The heavy mortar shelling in Digwar area triggered panic among border-dwellers.

There have been four ceasefire violations along the LoC in Poonch this month.
