IMPHAL: Chief Minister N Biren Singh today assured the House that the government is looking into the possibility of lifting of the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958(AFSPA) from some parts of the state.

K Ranjit of Congress urged the government to lift AFSPA from the areas which were largely peaceful. It was withdrawn from seven constituencies in 2004.

The chief minister further informed the House that cyber crimes were reported resulting in suicide by some victims. He said violence pictures, videos were uploaded by some people and many persons were also uploading fake photographs thus defaming people. There is no case of conviction yet even though police rounded up over 72 persons, he added. A dedicated cyber crime cell has been opened now, he said.
