Hyderabad: The Telangana State government on Tuesday requested the Karnataka government to immediately release 15 TMC Krishna river water to help meet drinking water requirements in Hyderabad, Secunderabad and fluoride-affected areas of Nalgonda district.

Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, in a letter addressed to his Karnataka counterpart MB Patil, highlighted the acute drinking water crisis facing people in Hyderabad. Currently, drinking water is being supplied to the State capital through Puttamgandi under the Nagarjunasagar project.

As against the normal minimum draw down Level (MDDL) of 510 feet, the level of water has presently gone down to 500 feet; and, hence, it would be difficult to meet the drinking water needs from the Sagar project. Therefore, Harish urged Patil to release water from the Almatti/Narayanpur dam.
