Prices of essentials, vegetables spiralling

Nellore: The prices of essential commodities and vegetables were skyrocketing due to ongoing agitations in the Rayalaseema region. The common man was the most affected as they are unable to pay exorbitant prices. With Ramzan and Sravana masam, the prices of pulses and onions are spiralling.

The traders are hiking the prices as per their wish stating that the supporters of unified State are disrupting the transportation of the perishable and essential commodities. Hence, the shortage. Adding insult to injury, with the participation of employees there was nobody to control the black market.

Onions were being brought from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana, but the traders were creating an artificial shortage and indulging in black marketing. Normally, the prices of essentials and vegetables will come down during July, August and September, but now the scenario was different due to Samaikyandhra agitations.

The people cried foul and demanded the intervention of the district administration and ensure that traders would not further increase the prices during September and October. The officials should wake up from slumber and carry out raids on godowns in order to curb the prices.
