Telangana: Slow And Steady Won The Race. The battle for Telangana in the recent spell that began with the indefinite hunger strike of K Chandrasekhar Rao more aptly known as KCR on November 29, 2009 has not realized even on this date.
The battle for Telangana in the recent spell that began with the indefinite hunger strike of K Chandrasekhar Rao more aptly known as KCR on November 29, 2009 has not realized even on this date. It seems that Telangana statehood is purely following the formula - slow and steady wins the race.
Since November 2009, many developments have taken place in Andhra Pradesh state. The then Union Home Minister’s statement of December 09, 2009; his another statement on December 23, 2009, constitution of a committee headed by Justice (Retd) Srikrsihna, submission of the report by the committee over stipulated period, the massive agitation carried out by all sectors of Telangana in the name ofSakalajanula Samme et al ever remains as the crucial episodes in the Telangana statehood process.
After so many developments and numerous consultations with various parties, at last on July 30, 2013, the Congress Working Committee has come out with its decision to form the Telangana state. Since then the Telangana agitation took another form. Almost all the parties which went on supporting the cause of Telangana have revoked their decision in some or other form and divided in the regional front. Amidst many protests from either region, the Telangana bill was referred to the state assembly on December 12, 2013. However, instead of holding fruitful discussions, so much of time was dissipated. Later, the chief minister has sought four weeks of extension to hold discussions on T bill. The president was pleased to give an extension of one week i.e. up to January 30, 2014.
Amidst bifurcated supporters and opposes, the Telangana bill has been sent to the union home ministry on February 3, 2014. The bill, after the approval of the union cabinet has now been sent to the president of India. The ball is in the President of India’s court.
This entire process has consumed a time period of more than 4 years. Many suicides and loss of assets have been seen by the state, as a whole. Enough is enough say the people from either region. They want peace restored as early as possible. But, the politicians have their own game plan. It’s true that slow and steady wins the race. At the same time, one formula does not suit all problems. Telangana issue has reached the last rung of the ladder. So, hopefully the dreams of people of either region may come true and the peace may be restored in the state at the earliest.
