Trinamool Congress MPs, led by Kalyan Banerjee, were up in arms. In fact, the BJP was taken aback, as the party is eyeing a possible post-poll tie-up with the Trinamool Congress.

With eye on Lok Sabha polls in 2014, the BJP has started soft-pedaling Gorkhaland issue, as it wants to cosy up to Trinamool Congress of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. As a result, the BJP wants to distance itself from the Gorkhaland issue. Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj had also refused to commit herself when the GJM top leadership came calling, requesting her for BJP support to Gorkhaland demand, as the BJP supported the demand for Telangana. The GJM also came forward to support Telangana and wanted that as a logical step, the Gorkhaland demand should also be conceded.
