A magnificent eight-wicket haul in the second innings by man of the match Swarupam Purkayastha helped Assam crush Hyderabad by an innings and 56 runs in the Plate Group ‘C’ match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Friday.

It has been a spectacular match for the 25-year-old off-spinner, who scalped 13 victims in the match.

Following the win and seven points they achieved, Assam has moved to second place with 21 points from five matches, while Hyderabad slipped to fourth place with 16 points from six outings.

Earlier, Hyderabad was imposed the follow on after being dismissed for 215 in the first innings, were bundled out for a paltry 122 runs in 66.3 overs. GH Vihari top scored with 24 runs.

Incidentally, the pitch was supposedly tailor-made for the hosts but it was Purkayastha who took the full advantage of the wicket.

Purkayastha picked eight wickets in second innings. He bowled at an awe-inspiring rate of one run an over in his 29 overs, 16 of which were maiden.
