Mumbai: Harsha Bhogle, a prominent face in Indian Television cricket commentary, will not be on duty for the 2016 Indian Premier League after the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) terminated his commentary contract.

Bhogle, who has been commentating on Indian cricket since the early 90s, was a regular in the Indian Premier League right from the start of the tournament. He confirmed his non-availability on his Twitter handle.

According to media reports, it is believed that the BCCI arrived at the decision after taking feedback from players. The move comes at a time when there has been criticism from some quarters regarding the quality of commentary during the recently concluded World T20 in India.

During the World T20, there were some interesting tweets during the match between India and Bangladesh in Bangalore on March 23. Amitabh Bachchan had expressed his displeasure and it was shared by Indian limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on his timeline.

Bhogle said that he has yet to know the official reason for the BCCI's decision. “No one told me anything. I have not been formally told of the reason even now. All I have been told is 'it is a BCCI management decision',” he said. BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur and IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla refused to comment on the development.
