In a stellar performance, the top three places in the 54th National Challenger Chess Championship at Noida, were taken by two from Andhra Pradesh while the third went to Telangana State. On the conclusion of the tournament on Tuesday, International Master S Ravi Teja of Tenali clinched the top honours after aggregating 10 points from 13 rounds.

Dhulipala Balachandra Prasad of Ponnuru in Guntur district and Fide-Master K Praneet Surya of Hyderabad tied for second place with 9.5 points. In the tie-break, Prasad finished second place. They have qualified for National ‘A’ Championship to be held at Lucknow from November 15 to 19. Ravi and Surya Praneeth drew in just 14 moves while Prasad defeated GM Vishnu Prasanna in 29 moves in the
final round.

Ravi Teja (10) drew with Surya Praneeth (9.5); Abhijit Kunte (9.5) drew with Aravindh Chithambaram (9); Abhishek Kelkar (9.5) bt SL Narayanan (8.5); Chandra Prasad (9.5) bt Vishnu Prasad (8.5); RR Laxman (9) drew with Tejas Bakre (9); Utkal Ranjan Sahoo (9) drew with Sriram Jha (9); Shardul Gagare (9) bt Santu Mondal (8); B Harsha (8.5) drew with Himal Gusain (8.5); Neeraj Kumar Mishra (9) bt G Akash (8); S Nitin (9) bt Ramnath Bhuvanesh (8).

Final placings: 1. S Ravi Teja (AP), 2-5. Dhulipala Balachandra Prasad (AP), K Praneet Surya (Tel), Abhijit Kunte (Pet), Abhishek Kelkar (Mah); 6-13. S Nitin (Rlys), RR Laxman (Rlys), Shardul Gagare (Mah), Aravindh (TN), Sriram Jha (LIC), Bakre (AI), Neeraj Kumar Mishra (Jhar) and Utkal Ranjan Sahoo (Odi).
