Kolkata: Captain Virat Kohli led Indian cricket's birthday greetings for one of India's all-time greatest batsman Rahul Dravid, who turned 44 on Wednesday.

"Happy Birthday Rahul Bhai. Thank you for your encouragement and for being a great role model for all the budding cricketers out there," tweeted Kohli, who was recently appointed the One-day International (ODI) and T20 International skipper after Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down.

"Happy birthday to the 'Wall of Indian Cricket', #RahulDravid!," tweeted former teammate and batting icon Sachin Tendulkar. Along with V.V.S. Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, the four formed the famed 'Fab 4' during their playing days.

"He played in the V. But was the biggest C. Commitment, Class, Consistency, Care. Proud to have played together. Happy Birthday #RahulDravid," read Virender Sehwag's ever-cheeky message.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra stressed on Dravid being a team man.

"Happy Birthday to Rahul 'The Team Man' Dravid. Always put 'Team before self' They don't make it like him anymore... #selfless #legend," Chopra tweeted.

Sharing a compilation of his pictures with Dravid, Mohammad Kaif posted: "Happy Birthday #RahulDravid. One of the most selfless, likeable human being ever and the biggest reason to love the name 'Rahul'."

Dravid is the fourth highest run-getter in Test cricket with 13,288 runs from 164 matches, just a run behind South African Jacques Kallis (13,289), Australian Rickey Ponting (13,378) and Tendulkar (15,921).

In 344 ODIs, the legendary right-hander and current junior India team coach amassed 10,889 runs while scoring 31 runs in his only T20 International game.
