Andhra Pradesh player P Sri Sai Baswanth entered the record books as the first winner of Charminar All India Fide-rating (Below 2000) chess tournament, organized by Anamchinni Foundation at Sri Srinivasa Function Hall in Nacharam late Sunday night.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh player P Sri Sai Baswanth entered the record books as the first winner of Charminar All India Fide-rating (Below 2000) chess tournament, organized by Anamchinni Foundation at Sri Srinivasa Function Hall in Nacharam late Sunday night.

He scored nine points from 10 rounds after defeating Anuraag Kuruwada(7) on the top board in the final round. With both Shaik Fayaz and Duvvala Suresh finishing on eight points, the deciding tie-break placed them second and thirdm respectively.
Sai Baswanth received cash prize of Rs 20,000 for his efforts while Fayaz and Suresh took home Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 from the Rs two lakh that was up for grabs in prize-money.

Later, Taduri Srinivas, Chairamn of Most Backward Classes Corporation (MBC) gave away the prizes in the presence of Ramana from Sports Authority of Telangana State, Srinivas Reddy, Tournament Director; Shanthi Saizen Shekar, Corporator from Nacharam, KS Prasad, President-HDCA and A Venkateswara Rao, Member of AICF.
