Hyderabad: Arya Achuta Sreeramaneni has been selected by the Basketball Federation of India to represent the Indian team participating in the FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship being conducted by Basketball Federation of India at Bengaluru from Oct 28 to Nov 03. Arya is the first woman player to represent Telangana state in any international competition.

Arya was who has been training at IMG Academy in Florida, USA with the help of Telangana Basketball Association for the past two years, was a student of Sri Chaitanya Techno School and Rishi Valley School, Madanapalle. She represented Telangana in the 34th Youth National at Hyderabad last year and at the 69th Junior National in Ludhiana in May earlier this year.

Sixteen teams are participating in the championship and India are in Division B of the Championship. India are confident to top Group B and qualify for Group A of the next edition in 2020, after having successfully qualifying in the Women and U 16 events held last year in Bengaluru.

Group A - India, Singapore, Guam, Iran
Group B - Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Syria, Samoa
The matches will be played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium which has a newly laid wooden floor and Koramangala Indoor stadium.
