Hyderabad: The world second largest gamma ray telescope developed by the city-based ECIL will begin its journey to Hanle in Ladak tomorrow. Dr RK Sinha, secretary, department of department of atomic energy, will flag off translocation of the telescope.

The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) developed for Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai has undergone test trails successfully recently. The 180 tonne telescope helps the scientists in the fields of astrophysics, fundatmental physics, and particle acceleration mechanisms. The telescope would be dismantled and transported by road in the next three months. The scientists would complete calibrations by end of 2015 and telescope would be commissioned by 2016.
