Train journeys for Indian commuters just got a much less anxiety laden with the Indian Railways rolling out a new app for mobile users to allow greater access to information regarding trains and timings. The app is named National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app and is available on the Google play Store and comes with a slew of nifty features to aid commuters.

Snapshots of the app

The core focus of the app is its 'Spot Your Train' feature which, true to the name gives you live updates regarding the train's position. This feature shows the chosen train's original scheduled time, the train's actual running time and the delay it is running on, if any. The feature also tells the current location of the train, in terms of last departed station. Another interesting feature on this app is ‘Live Station’ which helps users plan journeys at the moment's notice. Users have to enter the departure destination and the arrival station, following which the app gives train route options between the two stations within the next two-four hours.

The ‘Train Schedule’ feature is a simple but utilitarian list of all the stations any particular train will be stopping at, with notations for the station name, arrival and departure times, as well as distance markings in kilometres.

The train app can also give data for trains running between two stations, as well as information about cancelled, diverted or rescheduled trains through separate feature tabs. The app is currently available only on the Android and Windows platform.
