When Jon Cheng paid a visit to Brooklyn Boulders climbing club with his augmented reality climbing wall concept, "as soon as the first words came out they were thrilled", relates Wired Magazine. The young computer programmer who wished to "make anything that could be useful to people in real life", thus created Time Trial, a video game projected in real time on a climbing wall to which climbers can participate through optic sensors.

It aims to reach crossing points in order and as fast as possible. Once players do reach the objective, avisual and audio sign informs them, then performances are classified as in a arcade game.

"Actually, Jon is designing a real life video game", said a member of the club. Anyone is welcome to come play Time Trial for free during the two monthly events it's available.
