Hyderabad: To curb frequent road accidents and loss of lives on the busy Rajiv Rahadari (Hyderabad-Ramagundam road stretch), Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed Roads and Buildings (R & B) officials to explore feasibility to construct elevated express highway link from Hyderabad to Rajiv Rahadari on par with national highways.

Reviewing the functioning of the Road and Buildings department with senior officials of the department, Rao told officials to immediately take up provision of service roads, remove dangerous road bends and also create additional bypasses and flyovers on the Rajiv Rahadari for free flow of heavy duty traffic. He further instructed the department to prepare a master plan on such elevated express highways from the state capital to all state and national highways on the lines of P V Narasimha Rao express highway in the city.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a list of all ongoing road works along with cost estimates and action plan to complete them in a time bound manner.
KCR also instructed officials to prepare a road map to convert the existing 20,000 km Panchayat Raj roads into four lanes for district headquarters and two lanes for Mandal headquarters. According to the officials, this figure comes to 1,672 km of four lane roads and 7,287km of two lane roads.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to examine the feasibility of laying another ring of ORR (Outer Ring Road) within radius of 60 km or 100 km from the State capital to promote satellite townships and mass transportation systems for Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts and also to reduce the high population density in the State capital. With regard to existing defunct State guest houses in Telangana State, KCR directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to restore them official purposes.
