Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Panchayat Raj K Taraka Rama Rao said the Telangana government was keen on doubling the budget allocations for healthcare from the present share. Our government will set a target of doubling the present allocation to start with. Certain State governments allocate more than 10 per cent of their budget for healthcare. Our government will ensure the sufficient budget allocations are made to government hospitals,” KTR explained.
According to the Minister, development of public health sector is crucial as nearly 85 per cent of the State's population depends on it. The TRS government is determined to revamp the public health sector in Telangana.
“We are aware the task is not easy. The government needs all the support and cooperation from stakeholders of healthcare. The government will not only encourage more investments in private health sector but also ensure that the public healthcare system is strengthened so that the rural and the downtrodden get the best healthcare facilities,” KTR stated.
The government would promote medical tourism and Hyderabad as health capital. A delegation led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, would soon go to Delhi to secure more medical seats in the Telangana State.
He informed that a super specialty hospital would be set up in each district of the State on the lines of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Area Hospitals would be set up in every mandal and taluka,” he added.
Indus Foundation chairman CD Arha said the country's healthcare industry recorded a phenomenal 12 per cent growth in the last 4 years. “It is expected to grow from the present $70 billion to $145 billion by 2017 and to $280 billion industry by 2020,” Arha stated. The event is jointly organised by Indian Medical Association, Federation of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Indus Foundation.
