5 hour power cut in city

Hyderabad: Faced with a shortage of 20 MU of power a day, the power utilities in Telangana have decided to impose 5-hour power cut in two spells in Hyderabad city. In Municipalities and mandal headquarters the power cuts will be to the extent of 8 hours and in villages it will be around 12 hours.

Though the government is scouting to purchase power from neighboring states like Chattisgarh and Karnataka, till the situation improves, the power utilities will adopt a new method to decide on the duration of load shedding, particularly for the industrial sector. According to sources the power demand in the peak hours between 10 am and 9 pm would be decided depending upon the weather conditions on a daily basis. If the power demand is below 100 MU (million units), the total power cut timings in each category will be reduced on the particular day. To ascertain the power demand, the Discoms will depend on the weather data supplied by the IMD reports being published on an hourly basis. Though Telangana State Southern Distribution Company Limited (TSSDCL) on Friday decided to enforce 24-hour power holiday for industries once a week from Saturday, it has decided to put the decision on hold and watch the situation as the mercury levels had fallen following some rains in the city. The present 12-hour power outage for industries would, however, continue, the officials said.

As per the schedule, power supply would be stopped for industries located in Ranga Reddy – North, Hyderabad- North, South and Central on Monday, Medak- Bolaram and Ranga Reddy – East on Tuesday, Mahbubnagar on Wednesday, Medak ( other than Bolaram) on Thursday, Nalgonda on Friday and Ranga Reddy on Saturday and Sunday. Industries in Bhongir and Nalgonda would face one day blackout.
