Students of Toopran High School on Friday took out a rally and paid tributes to the children who died in the mishap at Masaipet

Train driver rules out negligence on his part

The driver of Nanded passenger train Satyanarayana said that there was no negligence on his part in the accident at Masaipet that claimed the lives of 16 people including 14 children. Stating that it was due to the negligence of the bus driver, he said that the passenger train was moving at a speed of 90 km per hour and he had blowed the siren about 100 metres distance. “However, when the bus was noticed crossing the tracks, I have even applied emergency brakes,” he added. It may be recalled that the train drivers were admitted in the Railway hospital at Lalaguda for treatment.

Tributes at mishap site

Students of various primary and high schools at Masaipet and the high school at Islampur paid tributes to the students who died in the accident at the unmanned level crossing.

They observed a two-minute silence at the place of mishap. The teachers and students have raised slogans demanding action to prevent recurrence of such accidents in future. The students shed teachers after noticing the notebooks strewn around at the place of the mishap.
