Warangal cops explain public safety measures

• Plea to install CCTV cams, doorframe metal detectors
• Violators to be fined with `5,000

Warangal: Urban superintendent of police A Venkateswar Rao has directed the private agencies, shopping complex managements, industries, schools and hospitals to initiate public safety measures.

Public places like religious places, railway stations and bus stands should also focus on improving the safety measures like installing closed circuit television cameras as per the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013, he said.

Addressing the urban district police officials during an orientation programme on the Public Safety Act at the district police headquarters here on Monday, the SP stressed on the importance of safety measures.

He said following the Dilsukhnagar twin-bomb blasts in Hyderabad in 2013, the state government has passed Andhra Pradesh Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013.

The Act was intended to prevent such bomb-blasts and those concerned should take the provisions of the Act earnestly and install high definition closed circuit cameras at their premises, the SP suggested.

Besides, the CCTV cameras, the entry and exit points of public places should also be fitted with doorframe metal detectors and frisk those moving in and outside the premises, SP stated.

Those violating the norms would be levied a penalty of Rs 5000 on the first occasion and subsequently stringent actions would be initiated against the erring organisations, he cautioned. A committee with municipal city planner, revenue inspector and sub-divisional police officer were being constituted to review the safety measures at public places. Awareness programmes under urban sub-divisional police limits would be held on public safety measures.

Urban Additional SP M Yadaiah, DSPs, Janardhan, Dakshinamurthy, Raji Reddy, Suresh Kumar, Rajamahendra Naik, Prabhakar and Ramesh were present.
