Warangal: With both vice-chancellor and registrar posts remaining vacant at Kakatiya University (KU), the affairs related to student welfare going haywire and the students forced to take up flash agitations.

The university authorities were not able to act on important issues as there was no vice chancellor since three months and the in-charge registrar Prof M A Singara Charyulu quit the post few days ago due to personal reasons. On Saturday, hostel students of KU Post Graduate College have resorted to flash protest over non supply of food since Friday night to the boarders. They staged a demonstration at the hostel premises at Subedari in Hanamkonda and locked up the warden and caretaker condemning their alleged negligent attitude towards the students. The students complained that the issue of non-supply of food by the contractor was taken to the notice of the warden Balaraju. But, the warden has responded haughtily and reprimanded the students, who took the matter to his notice.

It was said that the private contractor who was supposed to arrange dinner did not turn up on Friday night and the same was repeated on Saturday morning as a result the students were not provided with the breakfast.

Protesting students shouted against the caretaker Vidyasagar for his indifferent attitude towards students when he visited the hostel to hold talks with them. Later, they locked up the caretaker Vidyasagar too inside the hostel as a mark of protest.

After learning about the trouble at PG hostel, the University College principal Prof N Rama Swamy and PG College principal Ashok Kumar rushed to the spot and interacted with the students.

They made alternate arrangements for lunch much to the relief of the protesting and hungry students. Speaking to press persons here on Saturday, Prof Rama Swamy said that measures would be taken to replace present contractor after Dasara holidays.

“We took note of the issue and a responsible contractor would be arranged to supply food at hostel,” he said. It might be noted that there has been a delay in taking decision on hostel and mess facilities as a result the classes began beyond schedule.
