Hyderabad: With the Telangana government declaring Bathukamma as a State festival, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is gearing up with all-out preparations.

In this regard, Commissioner of GHMC Somesh Kumar along with senior officials inspected the roads and footpaths from LB Stadium to Tank Bund, Rotary Park.

The festival, which is going to be organised at Tank Bund on October 2, would see more than 30,000 women taking part in it. Moreover, a procession would also start from LB Stadium till Tank Bund where Bathukammas would be placed in water.

The GHMC is making elaborate arrangements all along the Tank Bund stretch and is also planning to set up a ghat permanently at the Rotary Park.

The Commissioner said the basic facilities were very minimum and the time was also very short. “This is an engineering officials challenge and the GHMC is planning to take up the works on priority and some of the works have already been started since yesterday itself,” he informed, adding that arrangements, including lighting, would also be made at all the 18 identified lakes under GHMC jurisdiction.

Terming it as a prestigious event, he said special effects of lighting would also be done with large size Bathukammas which would be placed at all main road crossings, and special hoardings, welcome arches, boards would also be arranged. The special sanitation teams would work 24x7 to make the city clean and focusing specially at Tank Bund, he informed.
